My 1520 currently has Home Premium installed and I have the OEM DVD for its reinstallation as well.... My friend has purchased another 1520 with Vista Ultimate but he did not get an OEM DVD for it.... He has asked DELL to send them the DVD but they say it would take 2 - 3 weeks to do that....

He instead wants to just use Home Premium instead and I would like to upgrade to Ultimate on my laptop....

I know in Vista there is an option to change the Product Key (but so far I have not tried it)..... I have the OEM key for his Ultimate and I want to upgrade to it without doing a fresh install on my machine..... If I merely use the Change Product key and give that Ultimate OEM key will it work ?

Also one more thing I wanted to get cleared about is does the OEM DVD DELL gives contains only that specified version like Basic, Home Premium or Ultimate alone or like the Retail DVDs contain all the versions on the same disc ?

EDIT: nvm Solved - I was able to make a clean install of Ultimate using my modded Home Premium DVD...

The DVD should contain all versions.

Dell gives a disc with a specific edition of Vista on it, unlike the RETAIL disc, which contains all editions of Vista.

As far as swapping Vista editions, you should technically get permission from MS first, since their policy on OEM installations is that it is valid only on the original machine and NOT transferable to a different machine, as you wish to do.

Is there anyway to verify this using the DVD other than trying to install it on a non-DELL pc ?
