Is this possible? I am currently trying to decide whether to get an E1405 or an E1505 and just wondered if it is possible to go ahead now and just get a smaller drive like a 40 or 60 gig and upgrade it later myself perhaps to an 80 or 100 gig. Thanks.

Yes it is possible and very easy to do. It doesn't void your warranty, but the HDD will not be covered in your warranty, so if anything should go wrong with it or it causes problems with the rest of your laptop - you'll be on your own.

All it involves is removing one screw, pulling out the old HDD and inserting the new drive. Dell makes it very user friendly to upgrade.
