The HD, RAM, and CPU are upgradeable. Especially the CPU, since it uses socket P, so it will be compatible with the 45nm Penryn refresh (you might need a bios flash, which Dell will need to provide).

There's a pretty good chance that you won't be able to upgrade the GPU, even if it's not soldered on, just by the merit of the 8600GT being the limit for the 14-15.4" form factor anyways.

Socket P for the CPU. Wait for Penryn.

For the HD, it's 2.5" Serial-ATA150 (SATA). The 3.0gb/s ones work too I imagine.

I would buy a CPU from a online retailer like Newegg.co. Penryn is just the name for the new Intel's Socket P 45mn processors (older processors had a 65mn or larger Manufacturing processor that consume more energy)

Also before even considering a CPU upgrade, make sure that you max out your ram(4GB with a 64bit OS even though its probably overkill) and a 7200rpm Hdd(maybe even a SSD hard drive if you have the budget).

you can buy mobile CPUs in retail boxes?

the chipset might not support the faster FSB though. just having the same socket probably isnt enough.

EDIT: ahh. ok. so you can................... probably not worth the trouble though unless you have a bottom level chip now. the Penryn will not be significantly faster...................next major step will be the native quadcore mobile chips..Nathlem?

Of course you can spend your money however you want, but your sig says you have the 2.0 ghz,...why would you want to rush to upgrade that?
