Hey guys, after telling myself I would never go w/ a Dell again (long story dealing w/ 8200), I just bought an Inspiron 6000 on the bay. However, I didn't read through and ended up getting one w/ the WXGA screen instead of the WSXGA screen like I wanted.

Can you upgrade the screens on them? Would I be better off to contact Dell and see what they could do for me or just do it myself? Does anyone know where the parts can be had at?

Also, I got the MCE version w/ the TV tuner, and upon further inspection, it looks like the Tuner is in fact a USB and not built in. Is it a good tuner? Anyone have experience w/ it?

    Thanks,

    Will

You can buy a new display and install it yourself, but it's going to probably cost more than you spent on the notebook, in the several hundred dollars area.

You might have to replace other parts if you go to a higher resoution.

Alright, I think I have almost determined that WXGA will be fine w/ me. I don't do any heavy gaming, and although I do a little PS, it is just that, "A little PS". Is the WXGA still a good screen though? Good colors and such?

    Thanks,
    Will

WXGA is fine, it is really clear, you will like it. Font is not to small. And all around the screen is very clear, and there would be a lot less glare compared to the truelife! :)

nick, do you have the WXGA? Your reply made me feel better about my purchase. As long as the screen is clear and colors are good, I won't have a problem w/ it.

Wtferrell, i dont have the 6000 but i have seen it with out the truelife and it is fine. (I looked at it at a Dell outlet store). Also I have WXGA on my Inspiron 8600 screen. But overall it is a good screen.
