How likely is it that I will be able to get dell to upgrade my screen for me? It is way beyond the 21 day mark but I would like to switch the Matte screen I got with the Glossy one. Do you think they will be willing to do this and update my warranty appropriately?

    This does not sound possible.

Well I would be willing to pay extra for this. I would even be willing to pay $500 for this if it could be covered under their warranty.

    EDIT:
Just got done with customer chat. They said that it wouldn't be possible to upgrade this screen directly. The only way is to return the system and order a new one. I would lose like $600 due to the 15% restocking fee and 15% depreciation charges for the system. Plus maybe another $50 to ship it to them. Then I would have to wait for the refund. ScreenTek seems to be my only option right now to do the upgrade. They sell the screens for $600 and I will switch it out myself.

Ok. Actually now the choice comes along...

Should I just order a new TrueLife glossy screen and drop down the $450 for it or upgrade the Matte one I have in it already? There is a considerable price difference there but still... Mine has some chipped spots in there where the spot shimmers if looked at certain angles.

EDIT: Whoops! Put in the price for the higher resolution one. I would want the WXGA+ resolution so this would be a glossy version of what I already have in the system.

Perhaps selling your notebook and getting the one you want would be an option.

Nah. Not really. My only fault here is the screen. I've dropped an email over to dell to see how an upgrade like that would affect warranty status. As it stands the WXGA+ resolution is perfect so the WSXGA may be too much. A glossy varient of the WXGA+ would be ideal if it doesn't void out my warranty. I would understand that Dell won't cover that part but if they will continue to cover the rest of the laptop then I'll be fine with it.

You can buy the WUXGA LCD from Dell Spare Parts & swap it with your original WXGA+ matte screen. The good thing about this is that this WUXGA LCD bought from Dell will be covered by the whole duration of your laptop warranty. This is valid provided that the LCD you buy from them is meant & approved to be an official E1705/9400 part.

The following is quoted from the back of a typical Dell Spare Parts packing slip:

Spare Parts Purchased From Dell Spare Parts Sales Department

...... Once installed in or on a Dell system, the reconditioned part may carry the longer of either 90 days or the remainder of the warranty or service contract period for the Dell system in which it is installed. ..........
