I got a new Dell D830 from work with the standard X3100 video adapter.

I would like to use this for games too, can I buy and install the 256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M that is an option for this machine after I receive it?

    Thanks for you help.

You cannot upgrade the X3100, sorry.

Thanks Greg, Is it because when you order the other adapter they use a different motherboard?

Exactly. The motherboard you are getting has a different chipset installed in it, and does not have the graphics card port available. So it is physically impossible, and not impossible just because you couldn't turn the X3100 off or anything.
