If you slop in a Merom into your current core duo notebook, would you then be able to run 64 bit windows? Would you have to change your RAM or BIOS?

You dont have to change the RAM, but you might need to change the BIOS. No one is sure yet

They are completely backward compatible. No need for bios upgrade.

Will upgrading your memory or hard drive void it?

hard drive and memory wont void it. So does the same bios for core duo work with the core project merom?

The Merom hasn't been released yet, so it's impossible to say for sure if a bios upgrade would be necessary. However, if my desktop Intel motherboard needed a bios upgrade in order to use a faster Intel processor, I would expect a bios upgrade would be necessary in order for a laptop to use a completely different and new processor.

Yes, and that is when dell does not make one, so that you buy another computer to have merom technology. It is just like the 7800gtx and the i9300.

By the time the bugs are out of the Merom and the prices have fallen, it will be time for another computer anyway!
