So lastnight I had a technician come out to replace some components because my scree was messed up bad. He ended up replacing the motherboard and the lcd.
Now it seems the machine is running oddly. I had it lock up once since he worked on it.
When the machine is off, and lid closed the power button does not work. Is that normal?
What does flashing (no sound) and (sound up) capacitive media buttons mean?
It took a long time to boot up after that, and it said it was resuming Windows even though I had done a complete shutdown.
Did he screw something up?

If you still are within the 45 day return period or if this problem was documented within this period I would send it back. You shouldnt have to go through all of this.

boeing 757 is right! I am chucking my Studio back to Dell and thinking of going for HP dv5...although its not possible to customize in my country...
First of all, an new system should never fall into the hands of a service engineer...thats completely unacceptable from customer's point of view...I suggest you get your money back.
1.Power button wont work when the lid is closed, normal.
2.Did not understand..
3.When a new board is installed that happens..recollect what happened when you booted the Studio 17 after unboxing.. -
Did he replace with refurbed parts, which is Dell's practice. I had the mb/processor go bad on my 1735 within 5 days of ownership. 4-5 hours on the phone, repeating the same info over and over...I was gonna accept the offer for them to fix the current unit as I didn't want to wait 10+ days for the new lappy. The day after the repair order went in, I rec'd call telling me that my part was backordered and would be delayed indefinitely. A few more calls and agreed to take the old one back and expedite a new one (4 day eta...beleive it when I see it). In the mean-time, I learned (from the local tech) that Dell fixes new units with used refurbed parts...Great, my brand new $1,500 5 day old pc was going to be repaireed with used parts! I switched from an HP and tried Dell...kinda sorry I did at this point. So far I am less than thrilled with my Dell experience. For some reason, I always thought Dell was a quality company.

The problem is that Dell uses other companies to build their notebook computers so they only have so much control over the quality.

This is a replacement system and has no more warranty, so it is complicated.
The color of this background makes a fuzzy animation on the screen, weird: http://www.flickr.com/notebookreview -

Sorry, I know the link is faulty. It was just to showcase the background color.
