I am about to purchase an Inspiron 6400 off an English company called EComputers Ltd. Their line of business is to take machines that Dell can no longer sell as new ie. cancelled/returned orders, and sell them on to a second customer via their Ebay shop. I've checked them out extensively, and they seem legitimate, as far as I can tell. However, I do need to know one thing before I can commit to buying from them.

The machine comes with a 1 year collect and return warranty, and a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium. I'd like to know if I'll be eligible for both if I buy the machine off them. Given that I'm not buying directly from Dell, my personal details will not be attatched to the machine on their system, so I'd like to know if it matters, of if there's a way to rectify this issue, should I purchase the machine from EComputers Ltd (assuming that they are unable to rectify it for me themselves in the event that it does matter).

Here is EComputer's Ebay shopfront, for those of you who may be interested:

The Express upgrade program is extremely annoying. It has many small steps that the order has to go through, and each of them can go wrong and is painful to correct.

The first problem is with COA-validation, and if that goes through the first time your COA will be locked, so if some later step fail you won't be able to just place your order again.

Also the support is very slow. They are difficult to reach on the phone and emails go unanswered or are answered after a long time. I've sent three emails to them about what is happening with my order, and two of them are still unanswered. The third one was sent to them on January 23rd and I got an answer on February the 6th, with no information what was happening.

If I would have known that this upgrade would be this annoying, I would have waited with buying my laptop until I could have gotten one with Vista installed from the start.
