    Hey.

I'd like media center and some stuff that is included in Home premium, but not business.

Can i use my OEM Vista business key and install Vista Home premium on my laptop?

    no you can't
you'll need to buy a Vista Premium for that

or you can install Premium, try it for 30 days
format, and reinstall Premium, try it for 30 days
    ...

Business and Premium were developped for an entirely different group
Business misses some features Premium has, and vice versa

BTW: I don't think the ANYTIME upgrade will work from Business to Premium, but I'm not sure ... anyone tried that already?

"Upgrade"? What do you mean by that?
You mean insert a CD with vista ultimate and then use the oem vista business cd key under my computer for it?

Would be great if that worked..

you'll obviously need to upgrade that key to Ultimate first ;)

You'll need Vista Anytime Upgrade, a control panel applet that allows you to purchase the upgrade online that is only available in selected countries. There's also a boxed retail package that allows you to purchase the upgrade off the shelf and should be widely available.

By the way, to clear things up. The key is tied/associated to the version of Windows you are eligible for use. A Business key cannot be used on a Home Premium (it will unlock the Business features during key information insetup). For trial versions of say Ultimate, you cannot use your Business key to activate Ultimate. In short it is unique to the version you purchase (like your house key).

As the name suggests, it is an upgrade process. It'll require a complete reinstall (clean install). :)

NO you cant use the same key.

There are plenty of much better media center applications out there. Therefore, I don't understand why you want to pay and change the whole Windows OS just to get some stupid fancy media player?

Some free HTPC software : GB-PVR, Mediaportal, SesamTV
Paid : Beyond TV, Sage TV, Showshifter

I'm sure you can find plenty of better FREE alternatives for the all other bundled media stuff of Home premium too.

Actually, I've tried at least 5 different media center applications for my Hauppauge TV Tuner and found that the Vista media center UI and ease of use is far better than any of the others. It was one of the main reasons I bought Vista Home Premium and I love it.
