How would the quality be to use the XPS notebook hooked up via HHDMI hookup to watch DVD movies on a 52" LCD 1080p TV?

Just like if you hooked up a DVD/HDDVD/Bluray player.

I do this all the time on my laptop, it has a HDMI port and i connect it to my 42" plasma and you don't notice a difference in quality, i thought it would take the picture of the laptop and stretch it to fit the TV but it doesn't, it looks like if i put the dvd in a dvd player and hooked it up to the tv. I have a Toshiba x205 but i don't see why it would be any difference on a dell.

I do all the time on my 32" Samsung 720p LCD. It looks really good, plus hdmi carrying sound is also a very nice feature :)

same here, I haven't tried with XPS but I bought Acer 5920G specifically for Media Center setup and been using it successfully for about 6 month. I wanted HD media center setup without the noise and buying a laptop was the only choice I had at that time. XPS with better specs should be fine as well.
