When you use Dell's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 restore CD, does it restore the Media Center partition and the OS partition automatically? Can you set it so that it does not install the Media partition and just installs the XP OS partition instead?

The Dell Operating System Reinstallation DVD for Windows XP MCE is used to reinstall the OS to the system partition... nothing more/less. There is no "Media Center" partition. Is it possible you a referring to Dell's MediaDirect???

Either way... the DVD ONLY does the OS reinstall.

Hope that helps answer your question.

    Cheers

My mistake, you are right. I guess I was referring to Dell's MediaDirect. I assume that Dell provides a reinstall CD for this in case the partition gets corrupted.....at least I hope they do!

They do, but you have to call them and ask for a MediaDirect Restore CD.

Actually they haven't produced anything so far that I am aware of to repair or update the files/applications in the host-protected area [HPA] where the files reside.

As it stands now, Dell has a Repair utility and a Reinstallation utility.

There's a thread here that will give you an idea of what's up...
