    Hi all,

    Hoping for some insight.

I have a 90w Dell charger that came with my studio XPS 13 (6 cell).
If I was to use this charger on a 3 cell Dell Inspiron Mini 12, can this seriously damage the 3-cell battery, or are the chargers smart enough to know what type of battery they're charging?

    Any long term problems?
    Any expert advice most appreciated!

It has nothing to do with the number of cells in the batter, but the amount of power the laptop can take.

well, i used a 65W car adapter from dell on a 35W laptop... you tell me, its still working :D

if it fits then it works, it will adjust to the Wattage of the computer ( same as using a 65W adapter with a 90W computer, the computer will downclock and adjust to 65W )

90W means that the adapter can put out a maximum of 90 watts of power. That doesn't mean that it always puts out 90W, so you should be fine. It will put out as much power as the laptop needs.

Although I have a suspicion that the power connectors may not be the same...
