I'm planning to buy a Dell laptop namely the E1705. However, I'm very cautious because of the news about the exploding Dell laptops.
I haven't used a laptop before. Is it possible to carry around a laptop minus the battery? Would there be a gaping hole that may cause problems? I'm asking this because There's almost always an electric outlet wherever I go.

You will be fine as posted.
The laptop can be carried around without the battery, but that's probably not something you want to do because dust/dirt can get in where the battery goes (and perhaps from there to other places inside the laptop). -
I have a zd7000, and I carry it without the battery all the time, it keeps it from getting hotter and weighs a lot less. The only time I used the battery was in school but I would always connect it. The battery doesnt last that long anyways, so I prefer not carrying it around when I am sure that there will be a place to connect it.
I dont think you should worry about the exploding battery, but you can do a little research and see if it affects the battery on your laptop, especially if its the one made by sony. -
The exploding issue should be taken care of by the time you get your laptop.I use mine all the time without the battery and have not had any problems, I do blow out the battery slot with compressed air now and then to keep it free of debris and dust.

as said before, the exploding battery isn't an issue
however, the e1705 battery houses one of the four rubber supports because it's in the front corner, so when you take it out and put it on a flat surface, it wobbles while you type/use the touchpad. just need to find something to balance it on if you still want it out. -
Thank you.
