Is it possible to use a 1705E through an external monitor without the display attached? My displayed has a nice two inch black line through it and I don't want to pour more money into it. I was thinking of just using it as a desktop (which it pretty much had been anyway) but the large 17 inch monitor is hard to work around.

*I know this is a strange question but I am in Japan for a year and getting a replacement display or new laptop is really difficult.

    Thanks

Yes you can use it that way, but don't have the lid closed, your computer may get hot.

Thanks for the replies. I am actually talking about removing the whole display assembly (I don't use wifi) and using an external monitor. Not just closing it.

Naton thanks for the support but actually electronics in Japan don't tend to be all that cheap (in fact I have found prices to be considerably higher in some cases). I couldn't tell you why. I just can't see myself spending 50000yen or more replacing a screen I wasn't all that found of in the first place with another one.
