    Hi guys,

Odd problem just cropped up on Vista. VGA Out now no longer works (it was working last night when I went to bed, not when I wake up). I have tried with two different VGA cables, and two different screens (one generic 17" LCD, and my main one, a Dell 2407 WFP), neither of them work.

The 2407WFP works with my older, Dell 630m laptop, so the problem is not with the screen or cable. The laptop is a Dell Vostro 1400 with a GeForce 8400m GS graphics controller.

I've uninstalled the driver, rebooted, tried to get VGA Out with no driver, no go (by using the Display Settings within Vista, or pressing Fn+F8 on the keyboard). I also tried uninstalling the driver in safe mode, to ensure everything was removed. Still no go.

I've tried several driver versions: 165.01, 162.18 and 162.13. 3D acceleration works, so the driver is functioning correctly.

When I power on the screen, the VGA input light is orange (means no input). I see no change when I connect/disconnect the VGA cable or enable/disable VGA out on my laptop.

I tried pressing Fn+F8 whilst in the BIOS to see if I could do it then. Laptop screen went black, no output on my external monitor. Though, this may be expected, as I'm not sure if VGA out is supposed to work before Windows has loaded.

    Can VGA ports be blown?

    What should I try next?

    Reboot does not help.

My usb devices (printer, card reader, and two external harddrives) work fine. They do not go via a USB hub, though.

I think this is a different problem, but I will watch your thread.

A similar problem happens to me too. I am quite worried since I will need to use my 1400 to give presentations later. I disabled TMM (search this forum and you will know how to do it). It helps but it's still not 100% functioning - before disabling TMM my external monitor flickered every 3 minutes (and sometimes couldn't connect at all); now it has gone blank once since I disabled it two days ago. I'm still not sure if it's a vista problem or not.

Try to do it under Media Direct. It has been working perfectly for me so far.

It's not working either. I changed the google.co.nz to google.com and it gives me a search results on eggheadcafe. Is it what your link is? Then it's probably not what I am looking for. But thanks anyway.

Do you know what another big Windows forum is where I could post this?
