I have an E1705 with the go7900gs and my hdtv has component inputs, no VGA ones.

If i were to buy a VGA to Component cable, would it work with my computer assuming that my hdtv could do it?

Well, If you have an HDTV, I'd suggest you use DVI to HDMI conversion cable. If ur Tv only have Component, the picture quality won't look as good and It can't display high resolution though. I have a conversion box which cost me 50$ to convert VGA to AV video. Sometimes the resolution messed up when you try high resolution through VGA to AV cable, and the picture wont' display correctly on the screen.

Yes, you can get a converter box to do that. They are expensive. Do as khanhfat suggested: get a DVI/HDMI cable instead.

For good HD information, visit http://www.highdefforum.com/. They have an entire subboard devoted to cables.
