Hi all I have a e1505 and the other day I plugged in some headphones and noticed I could hear this high pitch whining sound whenever the cpu was under load. I had noticed this sound before without the earphones being plugged in and is VERY annoying. I have read various threads and was wondering what the fix was. I shot a video of mine. In the video i started up HDtune to scan the hard drive (Which creates a load and the sound)

Sound seems to be coming from the center of the board when I try to pin point it.

Yep , get the same thing here , Mainly only when headphones on... I just use dynamic switching so my cpu rarley needs to fully stress itself... then i dont get the whine.

Hey Lite thanks for the reply.

I was on the phone with Dell and they went through the usual mostion and now want me to reinstall windopes. I dont want to do that since all the reading seems to indicate its a hardware issue.

I installed Notebook Hardware Control ( http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc_faq.htm) which allows you to set "max performance" and the noise is totally audible with my earphones on. I can also hear the noise with my earphones off especially under the center of the motherboard.

Other people have been citing the the cpu going into idle causing this noise but for some its under load. Anyone else have a clue as to what would resolve this issue? The whining is annoying especially when I have my earphones on. I can even slightly hear my finger moving on the scrolling pad. How crazy is that??? :(

fcastro I have the exactly same problem with my 6400 too, but mine have that sound when CPU is idle/low load.

Did you solve the problem yet? It's getting really annoying while you are working on assignments and stuff.

Btw, do you hear that noise when you're in the BIOS? Cause mine don't have that while im in BIOS, but is when window is loaded.....
