Well i recieved it today and and to cut the long story short im well happy! :D (I've never done a review before so sorry for sounding noobish)

The spec should be in my sig but here it is anyway:
    Dell Vostro 1500
    Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz, WSXGA+ Ultrasharp 1680x1200, 256MB Geforce 8600 GT, 2GB DDR2, Jet Black+2MPWebcam, 160GB 5400rpm, 6cell56hr
= £700 ($1400, but in europe thats quite cheap for the specs i got)

I decided to go for the vostro over the Inspiron even though i loved the silver inside finish on on the inspiron. basically because i didnt want to pay an extra $600. in europe vostro has just been released and hasnt evn been advertised yet so starting prices are really cheap, hellovalot cheaper than inspiron righte now, even though they're identical under the hood. I bought this mainly for university, cos im starting this yr, and also to play games. dell told me it will tak 3 wks but it came to me 2 wks early. All new vostro users look out for these points:
Loose latch with a cheap feel
Grainy screen (dirty look on white background)
    Wobbly battery
    Squeeky screen hinge

These are the most complained about issues with Inspiron/Vostro models on forums. the screen i got was pretty good luckily. No graininess visble. My moniter hardware id was lplf300 which I'm told is made by LG Phillips. Would've been nice if it could be brighter but its still nice to look at. Superb at max resolution, still need to load and play some decent games though.

    Pros:
The laptop has a pretty strong build, no flex on the lid or keypad
Pretty loud volume capabilities, but suffers from distortion at high volumes
Cool blue backlights for the multimedia buttons on the front of the laptop
    Wifi reception is amazing
Anyways with 2.0 Ghz and 2GB ram (no free 1gb upgrade) windows boots up ultrafast! in like 30secs or something.
Nice screen by LG. No graininess.

    Cons:
No colour choice, only all black
    Latch feels plasticy and cheap.
    Touchpad is small but manageable
Battery has slight movement, but im not too bothered.
    No bass in speakers
Fingerprints easily get on the front as you can see in the pics.
Quite heavy, feels like my friend 17" Hp pavillion.

Overall though I'm pretty pleased with what im gno use for the nxt 3 yrs. Thanks for all you guys on ths forum for helping me choose which laptop. Id highly reccommend this laptop to anyone wanting extremly good value for their money and dont mind waiting a few weeks.

hi, i have pretty much the same opinion as you regarding my lovely heavy vostro that arrived today. it is a great screen, LPLC500. i guess we got lucky!

i shall reserve too much glowing endorsement until i try and install my new bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo that is coming tomorrow and duly get to work on Bioshock to see what this thing can do!

either way, i'm not a very fussy man and it blows my current desktop out of the water!

    wooooooooooo
