Ordered mine on the 27th July, it moved to production and was built yesterday and shipped today - EDD was 23rd which they may just make. So 1700's are starting to roll out. Different configs though may be affected in different ways - lets hope you're in this batch now.

The expected wait is why I haven't bothered. I'll try the quieter time just prior to the Xmas rush.

That's still enough of a time to get money back. My vostro shipped in about 3-4 days. Ask for compensation now, and then if you get delayed, ask for more.

Well, talk of the CSR devil...

The guy I've been dealing with at Dell called me a few minutes ago to say that they haven't forgotten about the order and that it should be arriving on my estimated delivery date (28th Aug)

I checkd on the dell track page and it still says in pre-production.

I reckon I'm going to believe the CSR dude and hope he's right otherwise it's gonna be -£100 for Mr.Dell (maybe a bit steep on the compensation there :D but...I can dream can't I?)

I've also noticed a few other people here reporting that their Vostro 1700 have been shipping recently. Hopefully this is gonna be one big push from dell to clear the huge wait times.

I'll report back here in the next week. Who knows, it might even ship early!!

    Much love

    Great1

    oh monkey balls!!

just checked status now (4am UK Time) not really expecting any changes....

    but...

It now says pre-production as of 23/08/07 (previously 01/08/07)

my EDD has now been moved to 25/09/07!!

    this is totally unacceptable!!

i'm gonna call up tomorow and see what the hell is going on here!

I actually seriously need the laptop by the 07/09/07!!!!!!

    ok then, lets talk bargaining...

what should I be asking for in terms of compensation/freebies? i've read that people from the US have been getting around $100 ~ £50. i find this pretty poor actually...if they could throw in the remote, headphones and whatever else is comming to me as well as the £50 then i'm in business. althogh i would rather get a bigger monetary compensation!!

grrrr....5 days until my lappy arrives....bollox

    What have you guys done/achieved?

this is an automatic process at the moment you are a few days before the EDD an process will add 1 extra month and change the pre production date as well.

Currently the EDDs don't say anything.. they are just there for the amusement so that we can compare and discuss them here.. ;)

I also asked for some more stuff (like extra batteries and so on) but the problem is that then the order is altered and that means moved back in the order queue (just like you ordered a new one :( ) I dont want to start all over again :(

Dell is really starting to loose business now, i already got a message from someone that asked me where besides dell would be a good place to ordered new laptops because dell can't deliver fast enough for new employees...

its a 1500 not a 1700, 14" and 15" don't seem to be a big deal anymore, 17" or the 1330 do still have major delivery problems ...

    OK then, an update:

    1) I sent my dell guy an e-mail saying that this is unacceptable and I desperately need the laptop soon. I didnt mention anything about compenastion just yet. I got a reply from him...

    Hi,
I have escalated it and trying my best to get you the system delivered by 28th Of August.

    2) I get an automated dell email today which says this...

    Dear Customer,

Due to the popularity of the product you have ordered there has been a delay at our suppliers.

This means you now have an updated Estimated Delivery date.

We appreciate that you may have been waiting a long time for your order - and so will do our very best to beat the updated Estimated Delivery Date.

So at this stage, I am understandably p*ssed off and annoyed so do you guys think its time I send an email regarding some compensation?

Im literally on the verge of cancelling now

    ==UPDATE==

OK, so I ended up sending him the e-mail and sure enough, he's sticking to his story of escelating the matter...here is what he wrote...

    Hi,
As i said i have escalated it to the manufacturing department and they are already working on your issue. Your system is In Production and im placing my self down the line and doing my best to give you the machine as soon as possible.

    N* P*

    Hmmm

    Hi there,

i ordered my vostro 1700 on the same day as you, 31/7. Had an EDD of 28/08, but then it was automatically updated to 26/09. I phoned Dell, but they didn't say much, except i was still allowed to cancel, and that they would follow the order for me personally. They didn't give me any reason for the delay. I ordered the 1920x1200 screen, i guess that's problematic. But i want that :)
Anyway, i am still hoping to get my vostro sooner :)

    Fingers crossed!!

Hi, i finally got news from Dell : they shipped my vostro 1700 today !!!

I ordered it on 31/7, first EDD was 28/08, postponed to 26/09, which i understand is an automatic process, and now i got news it is shipped. Yesterday i checked my status, and it still was in preproduction. Maybe they should do something about that page ?? :)

    Anyways, good news!! :)

(my configuration is almost identical to yours, not sure about the battery, and i hope to have Vista Business installed)
