I'm considering buying a studio 15 with P8400 which definitely supports intel VT. Question is, is there an option in the bios to enable it? Can anyone with a studio 15 and a VT supported processor confirm or deny this option exists?

Yes, there is a option to enable or disable Virtualization Technology. I have a 1537 with 4gb ram and the p8400. I am using Vista 64 bit ultimate

Thank you so much! Ive spent ages googling to no avail trying to find the answer to this. Talking to dell of course is useless, their answer was "Huh?"

Yes, I've gotten used to knowing more than the call centre workers I end up talking to. Telstra in Australia (phone company) is one of the worst. They pretend you're a dummy and then you ask them to do something and they have no idea what you mean. The people who work at Dell are just as bad and have a limited grasp on English it seems.

I can confirm that VT is available on the Dell Studio. I recently bought one myself and found the option in the BIOS while I was poking around (disabled by default though, so you will have to enable it).

Oh... and another thing, don't be fooled by the appearance of the media buttons (above the keyboard) on the Dell website. They only light up when pressed (which I believe is a design flaw, because they are hard to see when they're not lit and you're in a dark room :S)

Try enabling it... OEMs can choose to disable it under Intels recommendation

Sometimes it shows up but greyed out or unswitchable.

IVT is a piece of overrated anyway. You dont need it to run virtual machines, on benchmarks the performance increase was negligible that it could have fallen under the margin or error...

I got one a couple weeks ago and it has the Intel VT options. They were disabled by default IIRC. I have BIOS version A08.

I don't know if you're still looking, but someone googling may find the info useful.

I have a 1535 with the VT option in BIOS, revision A06. I've never bothered enabling it though. What exactly does it do?

I've only found Hyper-V that uses the virtualization technology.
