The IT person at my old company made one for my sony s series and I was wondering if I can get the files off the disk on my m1210 or if that will only work on my old pc... Anybody know?

You won't be able to boot the M1210 with the Vaio's hard drive, no. The Sony S series uses a Parallel ATA drive, and the M1210 a Serial ATA - they are not interchangeable.

If you bought an external hard drive enclosure, you could get the files off that way, but it would probably be easier if you simply burned them onto discs or something from the Sony.

Thanks for the response. The recovery disk was made and I have it but i don't have the pc anymore. Since it was made as a vaio recovery disk and the files that I need weren't burned to a different disk maybe I can't access them?

If only the recovery disc was burned (which I assume included the operating system and possibly drivers), then your data isn't on there.

Might as well try popping the disc in there and seeing what is actually on it.

I think he backed it up but I can't see what's on there. I just get an option for compete restore or to install apps and drivers. maybe my dvd burner can't read it... I think it was backed up because it was reinstalled...
