Some error message came up on my system yesterday saying that i needed to go thru the validation test due to some compability issues, and i went ahead and followed thru with the test, but it failed.

anything i can do to fix this??
I have a DELL Preinstalled with Vista Basic.

Is it that harmful to NOT have it validated?

Try booting up in safe mode, (f8) then perform disc cleanup, I reccomend cleaning everything, if you dont be sure to select the memory dump files, then reboot and see if that solves the problem. I had a simialr incident and that took care of it for me.

If it isn't validated, in about 30 days you're OS isn't going to work much at all...I'd get it taken care of ASAP.

Ok I got it to validate after uninstalling some stuff.... (Soldier Front FPS game)
    Thanks guys.

Now the real question is....now that it's validated, should/can I try to reinstall Soldier Front to see if that error message will pop up again?

I'm not even 100% sure that Soldier Front was the cause of this error message.

I mean how many times would i have to validate it, just once right?? I cant imagine them trying to make me validate it over and over again everytime a compability issue occurs.

The compatibility issues could of been anything. Either in hardware or software that doesn't work as expected if at all in Vista. It will list what the issue was.

If it is already validated it shouldn't be a problem to try again. If it happens again, turn off UAC and try to validate to see what happens. UAC is a little problematic right now as far as I'm concerned.

When I experienced a similar problem as noted in my prior post, I was running a retail version of Home Premium, which had been activated for several weeks, after the cleanup in safe mode the problem just went away, I had to nothing further. Before the cleanup I had a little box on the taskbar saying windows was invaild.

Hmm ok i reinstalled Soldier Front after the successful validation process. I played it fine for a day or two, before the same error msg came up again, saying that I have to validate windows once again...

I uninstalled Sfront, and now its validated!

I did a google for "Windows Vista Validation" and came accross the help forums in there, they wrote alot regarding certain programs that will give you this error.

So I found out that my nGameGuard was causing this. Anyone running games that requires Gameguard will experience this also. Just googe "windows vista validation" and click on the first link, it should have all your answers in there!
