    Vertical Bands on Screen

    Not vertical lines, but an entire band on the screen that is about 1.5 inches thick. I've mocked up what it approximately looks like in the following image. Imagine that except that its not opaque but shows through.

    It's not a software issue probably since I print screen, and this doesn't show up at all. Is the screen going bad? The laptop's out of warranty unfortunately, otherwise I'd just have the screen replaced - if I replace it out of warranty, isn't that half of the unit's price?
