My wife has a 600m Insipron laptop, on the right bottom task bar there is an icon that looks like an arrow and when you click it it shows the swap out info for the cdrom drive (which is in the unit).
My wife doesn't want to see this icon on the task bar everytime she runs the laptop, is this an xp thing (she and I are both new to xp) or a dell thing or what and is there a way I can get that icon to stop showing up?
Best way to describe it is almost like a green arrow on bottom right side by clock...and when you click it it gives you details about the cdrom module (which is plugged in) about hot swapping it out or something I guess, but she doesn't plan on ever taking it out or swapping it out (nothing else to put in there either) and just wants the icon to be gone off her taskbar.
Sorry for what is probably a very simple question but it is driving her batty.
For me who cares I say, but if I find an answer to this it will stop her from whining about it everyday hehe...

That icon appears whenever there is a "removable device" attached to the computer. It considers the drive as "removable" This is normal behavior for Windows XP. For instance, when I attach a Compact Flash Card reader to my computer, I get that icon.
You can't really get rid of it, but you can "hide" it. Here's how:
Right-click the taskbar, and then click Properties.
On the Taskbar tab, under Notification area, select the Hide inactive icons check box.
Click Customize.
In the Name column, click the notification you want to change, in the Behavior column, click the behavior you want in the list, and then click OK.
On the Taskbar tab, click Apply.
Very Simple Q, how to remove icon...
