Very hard trying not to scream at Dell. Dell screws up my laptop.

I contacted Dell on their online chat about 5 days ago. I had told them I was having a grainy issue with my LCD monitor, and that the processor had a tiny whine. They suggested having it pulled into their repair depot. Next day, I sent it in. 2 days later they called and said that it was repaired and we should get it today.

I got the laptop back today to see that all they had done was swap motherboards, but get this, they put a 8400m GS in instead of my 8600M GT. So now, I didn't have my laptop for a few days, they didn't do what they originally said they are going to do, and now I have a worse graphics card. I am on their online chat again waiting, wait time 30 minutes, and now posting on my favorite forum on the web.

I am so furious, is there anything that Dell should do for me? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

I am guessing I am going to have to sent it back out and not have it for another 4 days, and HOPE AND PRAY that they do not screw up again. I still have the chat records of them saying that the problems I described would be fixed. I'll be showing them these logs in the chat I have in the next few minutes.

I'm sorry to hear that... if you want dell to do something i.e. some money back, explain your frustration and demand that dell compensates for your inconvenience. If they still don't do anything you can always threaten to return the notebook for a full refund if its within 30 days of purchase.

Personally? I think there should be some sort of compensation. Warranty extension sounds like a good idea :D

Dell has now told me that they replaced it with the 8400m GS because when they had it in their depot, they couldn't get the video problem to go away with the new motherboard and they replaced it with a 8400m GS. The rep is now speaking to their manager about the problem to see if I can get the original back in now.

Maybe they will offer me compensation.

I wonder if there are Dell representatives on these forums... some of the users seem soooo calm and optimistic about Dell. ROTFL!

I like Dell, but this situation is unacceptable.

Compensation? How about 50% off? I'd be pi$$ed.

They are not willing to give me compensation at the moment, but I am going to continue pushing. They currently have me at they will replace it back with the 8600m GT with onsite person.

That's not even worth it... after all that I'd feel like I was purchasing a USED system. I'd return it. LOL.

They said they did, and it does look a bit better to be honest.

EDIT: they are now offering a $50 coupon. take it? leave it? ask for more?

They are offering $75, but I said $150 feels like it would be a good enough price to make me feel better, heh.

They said $100, I think I will take the $100. They said they might not be able to issue any more than this along with the replacement with the card.

But wait, uh, shouldn't I have had my card in the first place? Ended up taking the $100 coupon.

you could have EASILY got more than this! I recieved a dodgy machine from DELL and was straight onto the phone with XPS Tech Support UK and he gave me a replacement machine, and (after a bit of haggling) I got an upgrade to 3-years NBD warranty (worth £170) free! :D
