Okay, so I have my Dell Studio 1535 laptop since September.. Since then, it has had 3 motherboards for the sound breaking, 3 touch pads for the eject button issue which still occurs, and 3 laptop lids for broken hinges due to the cheap silver plastic used on these covers..

Anyway, on my 5 Dell service call now, and they tell me they will not replace the lid with any different cover, full stop. They will not fix the laptop with any alternative parts, so I'm stuck with silver plastic lids as long as I have this, even though two of the times I was told they were quality tested and garuntee'd not to break, which they have..

So what do I do? The manager extended the warranty for me but ONLY for the hinges issue.. Nevermind the eject button or sound..

Do I challenge them for alternative parts? Or ask for a new laptop? What am I viable for? Can I argue I have been sold a faulty product and want a new one after this amount of time? Or is it too late?

Just fed up of this.. But not exactly good at getting angry on the phone ha.

Have you tried the X0D firmware for the eject button? It seems to fix it for literally everyone who installs it.

Rather than the normal tech support/customer service route, I suggest you send an Unresolved Issues form. Calmly but clearly explain your issues, what has been done already, and a Dell senior support specialist will call you within a couple of days. That's how I got my replacement.

Does this even work? Often I have emailed Dell and not received a reply.

If it didn't work for me, I wouldn't be posting it.

Didn't try it, thought I would try calling Dell support one last time before I did, chance my luck.

They won't give me a new laptop, but will replace the touch buttons and give me a blue lid instead of another grey one.. Argued that I am not willing to have it replaced for a 4th time with a grey one that will just break within another month.. Think they finally gave in.. Blue one on it's way.. hopefully the hinges won't break on it as the coloured lids are made from a different material. =]
