    I have games such as COD4, Crysis, and Assassins Creed. What are the best drivers I can get for this laptop in order to play these games with good quality? I've done some reading and saw that it's possible to overclock the GPU. Is this safe? Is it really worth it? I'd like to try and increase the quality. I've never really played Crysis or Assassins creed because it was a bit choppy. I have since installed the T9300 processor and havn't tried crysis since as I replaced my HDD with a 7200 vs the 5400 that was in it. Thanks for any input

    Well, I have a system just like yours.
    To be honest with you, you can't play jack with your system unless you install I8kfanGUI. make sure you enable the driver signature enforcement before you install it.
    after you finished installing it choose the option " Force fans to high speed, also bare in mind to enable the GPU temperature reader on the option menu.
    I played left for dead at ULTRA MAXIMUM for 85 minutes and had no problem.
    Forget Vista and just install windows 7 64Bits, it supports all your drivers and everything and you can use 8Gb Ram.
    in case you don't know, you can install up to 8GB of Ram using K.Skills 4Gm Ram which costs about $139.99
    Need for speed shift is another example; you can switch everything to maximum 16x etc ... but you have to use normal car detail and Low blur motion.

    Assassins Creed can be played on MAX and Crysis can also be played at a very high level.

    Hope that helps.

    @DR650SE, didn't knew you made a post :)

    The best drivers are DOX optimized 185.85 drivers from LV2G. I have successfully overclocked the GPU on my 1720, and it ran well nice and cool. To be frank you can't really expect much from the 8600M GT it posses.

    @ Sam, I'll have to correct you. The system cannot take up to 8GB RAM due to BIOS limitations. It can only boot up to 6GB max. And this thread is very old, please do not dig up old stuff. And to be honest, I don't know how you manage to run Crysis at Very High settings, unless if you really bump down the resolution to a mere 1024. I have ran, modified many machines in my lifetime and even the highest end cards have problems running at "Very High" settings you described, and I know unless you must be kidding me.

    I was told it can be done by flashing the BIOS using some programs and then it will recognise 8GB.
    About Crysis, I used 1280 X 800 and also I8kfanGUI.
    I built my first PC when I was only 6 and that doesn't make me an Alien, right ! ?

    Yea man, I made a post In April lol I just ordered an M17X on friday. Figured thats the route to go now that I can afford it, but I'm still keeping the trusty 1720. It never gives me problems. I browse this section every other day or so but have been reading a lot in the alienware section just about the problems i'm likely to incurr with the M17X
