If I am getting a 1280x800 resolution screen, what is the visible difference between the 14.1" and 15.4" screens. Is it something that I should go with the larger screen, or to save on portability (size and weight) is the 14.1" really that much smaller - or is it really noticeable?

You have a difference in .7"....

I don't think you'll notice a difference in screen size so much as a difference in overall case size.

14.1" notebooks are far more portable than their 15.4" brethren.

    Actually it's 1.3". And that's diagonally.

Some people find 15" too big, but in reality it's the best in performance to portability ratio. For others who don't mind lesser performance [read as: lack of better graphics options for 14" as compared to 15"], they'd get 14" for portability and still more than decent performance.

And I'm positive that screen real estate has more to do with screen resolution rather than size -- at least when comparing 14" to 15".

And how's the keyboard. Hopefully not any smaller than the 15.4"

BTW, your math is wrong. It's 1.3" difference (at least in diagonal) - LOL.

I find that 14" is perfect when you do a lot of travelling or like to lie down in the sofa with the laptop in you knee. Anything bigger is too big.

if you don't fit the above, certainly 15" is the better option. Well, actually, if you have the same resolution in 14 and 15", maybe the difference ain't that great after all...

hypdotspec - I hear ya, first newborn 4 weeks old, sleep deprivation does much more weird things than bad math lol

mini - Thanks for that. I just took a quick look at Best Buy and at 1280x800 15.4" and 14.1" side by side don't look that much different. It is phycially noticably smaller, but screen size it doesn't look much less.

I think I'll go with the 14.1" since it is lighter and same price as the 15.4".

when I went from my V1500 to V1400, the screen size didn't really seem much different. I still have a good size screen to work with and good amount of desktop space.

What I did notice was how much smaller and lighter the V1400 was. So much easier to lug around school and to use on my knee and so on in classes.

I did have to give up 8600GT for the 8400GS but I Do not regret it. I don't game much and it was a good tradeoff for the size. Also the V1400 has better battery life from my experience.

Great notebook and the price I paid just makes it one damn sweet notebook.
