Just Vista Home Premium, Ultimate etc. refers to 32bit edition. 64bit editions are specially marked as 64 bit (i.e Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition). All pre-installed copies by DELL (and other companies) are usually 32 bit.

Why do you need a 64 bit OS?

Why does it matter why he needs it?

    Agreed.

If the man was looking for a lecture on why he shouldn't (or should) use 64-bit, he would have asked for it.

I think what he meant was why the 64-bit over the 32-bit in general. What does the 64-bit give that the 32-bit doesn't.

    It gives 64bit support...

For all we know the person could be looking to use the 64bit version of a program that would allow him to reap the benefits of his 64bit hardware...

There are real AND valid reasons to choose 64 over 32 ;)

Post gave no actual useful information nor details, but said what is obvious.

Have you considered a career in politics? :)

That's my point ;) The poster said nothing really to lean to specifically needed or not needing 64, but since he asked for it we should help him with the question he did ask about; which has been done.

I'm on the fence about a political venture in the future, though I don't believe politics should be a career ;)
