I just got a Dell Studio 15 laptop for Christmas that has Vista 32-bit installed on it. I really want to upgrade to the 64-bit edition as well as upgrade my RAM to the max my PC will run. I know Dell says the max RAM on a Studio 15 is 4GB, but I've heard upwards of 6GB RAM being recognized. Will my PC run the 64-bit edition as it stands? What is the max RAM I can run and be fully recognized? And if I do upgrade the RAM to 4GB or 6GB, is it automatically going to be dual-channel shared? Does it need to be 2 sticks of the same exact matched ram for it to be dual-channel shared? Will Vista Home Premium run 4GB of RAM?
Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 Processor
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 RAM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1 32-bit
Please forgive me as I'm sort of new to all this dual-channel, vista, upgrading hoopla. If any more info is needed, please let me know.
Thanks,
Ryan

If you install the 64 bit version it will work fine now. In 4GB it would be dual channel. In 6GB, 4GB of it should be dual channel and the remaining 2GB won't be. It's not a big deal anyhow. The 64bit version of Home Premium supports up to 16GB, so you are well within the limits.

How much RAM does the 32-bit Home Premium support? 4GB or 3GB?
Basically, I have 3GB RAM right now, but want 4 GB RAM, will 32-bit Home Premium support 4GB of RAM? -
It supports roughly 3GB depending on what other devices you have that use up memory space like your video card. So between 3-3.5GB.
Vista 64-bit
