I just purchased an XPS M1730 and since Dell doesn't ship 64bit OSes yet - I reinstalled Vista with a 64bit disk and used my OEM key - worked great.... except the driver support.

On Dell's site - picking support for the XPS M1730 and then 64bit vista for drivers proves pretty useless... they have some there, but definately not all plus there is no software for the "extra" features of the M1730...

Anyone know where to get this stuff? Like the LED light application? The wireless NIC software? The "Dell" power management software? The onscreen display of turning the volume/screen brightness up and down? The other pieces of software that directly interface with the bios? stuff like that?

Any pointers? There aren't even any 8700M GT drivers on nvidia's website - nor on Dells... :( Any pointers? I want to utilize my full amount of RAM (4GB) and enjoy the extra speed on my desktop PC which runs 64bit.

    TIA

For starters, most of that stuff is handled my Windows Mobility Center (Power management, brightness, volume, etc.

You can get the latest and greatest video drivers at laptopvideo2go.com. Go to the forums and go to the 16x.xx section.

Go to synaptics for your touchpad.

You know what, there are several posts about 64 bit drivers already on this forum. Here's one for starters:

If that doesn't help, try searching for a few of the other posts. If no luck there, then come back and ask your questions.

thats what i did w/ my hp also. I look at the hp site for the 32bit laptop, lookedi at what hardware is shipped w/ it and went to the manufacturers site- also knew the parts that way.

sound card, graphics, etc, can all be found w/ a little digging

    have fun :)

Thanks guys - I found a few more of the things I was looking for... including a link to the QuickSet program for Vista 64bit.

So now I just need the time to install all of this stuff :)

It's nice to see so much support for 64bit Vista here!!

the 32bit "USB Auxilary..." blahblah application on Dells site appears to work fine in 64bit...

There are two unknown devices still... maybe bluetooth and the card reader?? Wonder where I can find those drivers...

Ahhhhh thanks meetloaf - I saw Ricoh and immediately thought printer drivers for some reason... *blushes* sorry - just had a massive Ricoh printer upgrade at one of my consulting jobs...

Any idea on the bluetooth or perhaps IR reader for 64bit? Anyone?

hmmm, I just bought a bluetooth adapter from compusa, I can send you the image of the CD it shipped with, the drivers are working for me. It might be a couple days though, final projects are drowning me.

actually dell has 64 bit touchpad drivers for 630 which work very nicely on vostro 1700 so they should work for xps 1700 too.

I used the synaptics one - works fine...

I think bluetooth are dependant upon the chip inside the BT more than you are thinking... I'm not talking WIDCOMM vs Microsoft bluetooth - I'm talking about the physical device manager installation part... I have the feeling the bluetooth drivers you have on the compUSA adapter model is different than the module that's plugged in under my battery compartment door :)

But it's a good idea - I'll try the USB adapter at home and see if those drivers work or not...

I can't seem to find IR drivers anywhere... wonder if it's built in?
