    Hi Folks,

Just had a IE7 crash, lost my post and it restarted automatically. Then, a few minutes later, was reading a site and I got a BSOD.

When I restarted, Vista automatically tried to find a cure for the crash, went away for a bit, but nothing else seemed to happen.

Anyone else getting BSODs at the moment? This is my first full day of hammering my new laptop, my first Vista usage and real BSOD experience. After years of using XP with barely a handful of BSODs I'm a little concerned ;).

    Cheers,

    jahboo

No need to worry. Start your system once in safe mode and then reboot to normal mode. Also clear all temporary files via All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup!

Is this information helpful? How else can I help you? Do reply!

XP has been out for 6 years (+two service packs released) and consequently the drivers are better. So it's normal that both the OS + drivers maturity make XP more stable...(Vista has improved in term of stability and will continue to improve...we just don't know how stable it will become)

do you have latest updates installed?

    Hi sinstoic,

I didn't bother with safe mode, just started Windows normally. I've had similar experiences with XP although few and far between so I wasn't all that concerned ;).

    Thanks for your reply.

I know. I'm fairly happy to give Vista a chance. I can't be bothered putting XP on it for instance providing it isn't crashing and losing me work every half hour ;).

I recall some updates happened yesterday when I first connected to the internet so I think so. I've also just done an audio system driver upgrade at the behest of the Dell Update thingy. Perhaps that's what did it!?!?

    Cheers,

    jahboo

Not immediately, no. This was quite a few hours ago. I was only joking really. Just need to see how it goes and play it by ear.

Where's the joke? About the fact that a driver upgrade could cause BSODs?

Yes, I was kidding that I thought the driver update caused it. But you never know;-)...

Overnight my M1330 downloaded a massive number of patches using auto update. I guess it wasn't properly updated at all!

Fingers crossed, that was what was causing my difficulties and everything will be much more stable from now on ;).

    Cheers,
