Does anyone know if you can order a Vostro 1500 with Vista Home Premium? I noticed some list it in their configurations, but when I go on the Dell site all I see is basic & business options.

I believe the Vostro line is a business notebook. Just like the Latitudes and Precisions. Thus, they do not offer the Home version of any OS (XP or Vista).

I did see the Home Basic option like you said, but I bet that's for the customers who want a low end cheap OS. Most businesses prolly have a whole bunch of Vista/XP licenses to use on their notebooks. So if that's the case, then they want to get the cheapest possible OS option with their machines. No sense in paying extra for a machine with a nice OS when you already have keys of your own. And since Dells have to come with an OS, the cheapest option is Vista Basic for those who do not need an OS.

I've heard that you can order it with Home Premium ($29 upgrade from home basic) if you order by phone.

And if the advice about ordering by phone doesn't work, you could always buy Home Premium at a store somewhere.

You can call in and add it. I got Premium on mine for $29 extra, they had to cancel my order which was only placed 20min before and change it so it's premium. I got a $50 coupon for my troubles of changing the order. :)
