I was wondering, now that my Dell system (in sig) is outdated, I would like to see how it compares to the newer laptops containing the Santa Rosa tech.
Excluding benchmarks and whatnot, I'd like to base this comparison soley on the Vista Index Rating.
Anyone care to share?
Mine is 3.7 (system in sig)
Also, if your specs aren't in your sig, please include them in your post.

4.7 (doens't really mean anything though)
-
4.7
Although, much like all Microsoft technologies, it's meaningless and/or useless, so basing anything off the index rating is pretty poor judgment. -
4.8
yup yup -
4.7
Try some real benchmark, that will give you some real values... -
4.7, though I had it at 9.9 for a few minutes. Basing performance on the WEI score is like judging how well someone jumps by how big their shoes are.
-
Ladies and Gentlemen, my point has been proven lol.
Microsoft, leading the way to a better useless system. -
To further this point check out this site How to artificially raise WEI
-
heh score.. so tweaking it to max it out to make me the envy at the office..lmfao

4.6
Processor 4.9
RAM 4.8 (used to be 4.5 with one Gig)
Graphics 4.6
Gaming Graphics 5.2
Hard Drive 4.7
I still don't understand what the difference between Graphics, and Gaming Graphics is....
T7300
2 Gigs of RAM
8600M GT -
people with the 4.7...is the 4.7 for the RAM?
-
Btw, my HD is rated at 5.4 which is pretty good for a Samsung HM160HI 5400 HD. It is strange that my result is a lot higher than other 5400 HD's and all 7200RPM drives that i have seen.
edited to add HD score picture. -
-
4.5
on both x32 and x64 due to graphics card.
The numbers below are from x64
Inspiron 1720
T7300 2Ghz (4.9)
4GB Ram (4.8)
8600M GT (4.5 graphics / 5.1 3D Bus. & Gaming)
Seagate 160GB 5400rpm (4.8)
Hitachi 100GB 7200rpm (5.1) -
I also noted the presence of Adaptec AHCI drivers, but I can't find any app to monitor MSM settings. so I'm not 100% sure the M1330 comes delivered in AHCI mode... . I use MSM on one of my PCs in RAID mode and the native tool from Intel comes with a utility to configure / monitor the storage setup.
[edit] Just noted in BIOS that field SATA OPERATION is set to AHCI mode. -
my HD only getting 5.2 and its a 7200rpm. anything i can do to increase?
-
I get a 4.6 which is from Graphics while my Gaming Graphics got the highest rating of 5.2 amongst all.... Strange isnt it....
-
Well i just left mine as standard i think.
The M1330 do quite well they get the best marks in its class anyway and they do better than the SZ6 which scores about 3.5.

sony never made reliable product.

It seems that the 8600M GT out-performs the x1400 by a long shot.
I wish I had atleast the x1600, as well as a 7200 HDD.
Thanks for the response guys!! -
My HD makes this clicking noise at least a couple of times a day. It is a bit odd and it has happened since i have owned my computer. Apart from this clicking noise i don't really hear a peep out of it. If it was not for that the drive would be dead silent.
A XPS technical support guy said that my drive could be on its way out because of the clicking noises.
I have said that i don't want a Hitachi or a Seagate drive 160 5400 HD. The Hitachi is too loud and noisy for me.
I know that the Samsung is not the most fastest drive but i do like the fact as well that it scores so well on the Vista Index i can get 5.4 with the Samsung drive. I also like that is quiet except for the clicking noises as well.
Does anybody know what the 250GB HD that Dell use is and what it scores on the Vista index?
Thanks -
It's not a nice experience booting a computer into a DOS based void consisting only of of nonsense alphanumerics...
*Shudders*
Do it now. -
). It's not constant clicking, but rather like you said, occurs occasionaly. Sometimes it can be very loud, which certainly freaks me out
I'd prefer to think it's a Spinpoint characteristic and not a failing HDD, but who nows for sure...
But we're hijacking this poor fella's thread; here's another thread dedicated to all kinds of clicking noises... -
Got a 4.7 for the thing in my signature.
-
I got a 4.7 due to:
Processor: 4.8
Memory (RAM): 4.8
Graphics: 4.7
Gaming Graphics: 5.1
Primary Hard Disk: 4.8 -
For what it's worth I get...
Processor: 4.9
Memory: 4.8
Graphics: 4.7
Gaming Graphics: 5.3
Hard Disk: 5.2 -
Ok guys. Just so you know a 5.9 is the max achievable score. This is for anyone that does not already know that. Anyways I don't run Vista now but for the 10 minutes when I did have it on the laptop I scored above a 5 for everything except memory where I did a 4.5. These numbers don't really mean anything though and is just a basic benchmark. But they are far from inaccurate as they can get pretty close sometimes.

-
No 5.9 is the max that Vista, at this time, will generate on its own. 9.9 is some hacked up fantasy that is only displayed as a cosmetic bit. I can make any number display in any application if I want to but it doesn't necessarily mean it is valid. I'll check with the MS guys but I'm pretty dang sure that was defined while I was in the beta for Vista.
P.S. - Explain to me how someone with a Quad-core processor and dual 8800XTs gets only a 5.9? -
Read my last post again, and you'll realize that I agreed with you.
The cap was designed to be moved once technology hit it, so I'd expect the WEI to "rate" higher soon, esp. with Penryn and new GPU's coming out. -
Ah... ok. sorry.

Processor 4.9
RAM 4.8
Graphics 4.7
Gaming Graphics 5.3

What is processor score for T7500? -

Graphics: 4.0
Gaming Graphics: 4.6
