VISTA; I searched but cannot find. Here is what I did:

I went into Computer > Manage > Device Manager > Monitors

It usually gives me the brand on XP, but it just says Generic PNP on this VISTA.

How can I check the brand of the LCD on VISTA?

Is there another way without having to install software?

Are you trying to determine the brand of the LCD in your notebook???

Vista doesn't care about monitor brands and neither should you. Monitor drivers are a thing of the past.

    Uh... ok, sure.

So, does anyone know how to check the brand of the LCD of your notebook?

I just received my 1420 and the screen is pretty nice; I don't really care about the brand, but I was going to make a thread about my 1420 and thought the info could be useful to others who are interested in buying the 1420.

what does it say under "Hardware ID"? You can tell what brand it is by what it says there!

    LCDxxxx is Toshiba LED Screen

    CMOxxxx is CMO LED Screen

AUOxxxx is a plain old CCFL Screen (not sure about manufacturer....maybe AUO is the manufacturer??)

Well I guess you didn't make yourself very clear then. Pretty much all LCDs will perform the same regardless if Vista detects them as "generic."

The manufacturer information is really only for personal knowledge, history, research, etc. It shouldn't affect how the OS interacts with it.

Everyone is basically confused as you didn't state WHY you need that information. So I'll ask it plain and direct, Why do you need to know the LCD maker?

If it is super important you can always open the lid up and see what is printed on the back of it...

    -Go to device Manager
-Open "Monitors", double click on "Generic PnP Monitor"
    -Click details tab at top
-Under property drop-down menu, select "Hardware Ids"
    -Google what you see
