Sorry if this has been brought up before, I quickly read over all the topics over the last 2 days or so and didn't see anything...
Has anyone tried the latest Vista build on the E1505? I have a T2400 and X1400 - can I use everything no problem? Btw, when I say everything, I mean everything - including Bluetooth and All-in-one reader.
Regards.

Download that and run it. It will tell you everything you need to know. -
Thanks . -
Should work, I used The Pre RC 1 on my E1405 and it worked fine. Only thing it doesn't find is the smart card readers.

Hi,
I installed Vista RC1 Build 5600 on my E1505 (T2300, X1400) this morning. My thoughts:
1) Wireless is not supported out of the box - I havent tried the XP version of the Intel Proset drivers yet to see if they will work.
2) Vista recognises and installs drivers for the X1400. Havent tried any games yet. One annoyance is that everytime the UAP dialog appears the screen visibly flickers. ATI have released RC1 drivers for this card, but I havent tried them yet to see if this will rectify the problem.
3) Power support is a bit flaky - If the laptop is running off the AC Adapter, and the power cable is removed, the OS will blue screen.
The bug bears with this version appear to be mainly driver related. I have noticed that some of the windows dont have titles too which is rather annoying. But the system seems responsive enough for use. I havent installed any other apps to test compatibility, but over on Paul Thurrot's Supersite he has a list of apps that work and dont work with Vista RC1.
Im going to go and take another look at the OS tonight when I get home from work... -
Thanks Mark, now that is what I was looking for...
Wireless support is big for me, that's all I use. Power support was a good note as well, I use my lappy all the time - and charge it multiple times daily and that would of f'd me up.
I'll stick w/ XP for now - Thanks!! -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
I installed it on my desktop computer (to see if it would run OK) and I ran into several problems. My internet connection was much slower, I couldn't hear any sound through my headphones (driver issue), and my PC needed to be much faster (P4 2.66 Ghz) cause it runs a lot more resources.

DoubleBlack,
I just installed RC1 on my 1505 and with one exception it is working perfectly. I have the Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG card and integrated graphics. I am using a 3com wap about 150 yards away in another building with wpa encryption. Speed and distance is comparable to when I had xp pro on it.
My problem is that I have three "base system devices" that I can not find drivers for. I am assuming that like xp, it is the card reader. If anyone knows where to find these, pls pm or reply. I'm off to google and search the never-ending dell site.

Yeah, I have never had a problem with wireless either. Actually, I'm online via wireless right now in Vista. Actually, I take that back. I did have a little problem with wireless in the beginning with RC1, but not Beta 2. I simply installed Dell's drivers for the Intel card and all is working flawlessly.
@Incog, the "base system devices" probably does apply to the Media card reader. I had this same problem as well. But I just downloaded and installed the Ricoh drivers from the Dell site for WinXP and everything is working fine as far as I can tell. The only thing I've used is a Memory Stick, but it read fine. -
Thanks notebook_ftw, I assumed as much. Google and Live search didn't turn much up except for the xp problem that I ran into before. I'll d/l the ricoh drivers tonight and see if that fixes it.

Just FYI, I just installed RC1 build 5600 and successfully connected to my WPA/TKIP wireless router "out of the box" with an intel 3945. As previously posted everything else also seems to work "out of the box" It's still early and i do have 3 unknown items in the Device manager that I'm not sure about, but the major systems run fine.
