I'm running Home Premium on an Inspiron E1505 and Windows update wants to install Windows Vista SP1.
back when SP1 was first released, I downloaded it from the website and tried to install it. it failed. after rolling back drivers and other things, I recovered my computer and all its data. a week ago, I made an effort to update drivers so that Vista SP1 would show up on windows update and install itself properly. two days ago, it did show up (I think it was because I removed the Sigmatel Audio Driver and let windows install a standard audio driver). I tried installing SP1 and I had almost the same problem. once it hit 100% of stage 3 of the installation, it said "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 did not install. revertign changes" and went back to how I had it before. I booted up my PC and Kaspersky kept giving me a firewall popup abou the SVChost.exe being changed. obviously, something still went terribly wrong and I again had to rollback to a previous setup to fix it.
and here I am now. with Vista Home Premium and the nagging option to install SP1. anyone know why it's not installing? or at least know of a way to make it NOT want to install SP1?
Vista SP1 wants to install but I know it will fail
