I have an XP disk from when I bought a Dell desktop 5ish years ago.

Can I install the old XP and run all updates, or is it only good for one computer?

I've seen the "how too" threads, but I do not want to die half way through.

Yes, you'll be fine. Depending on the amount of times you've activated with that CD Key is might not work. But you can call Microsoft and give them the numbers on the CD and they'll give you a new CD Key. Done it 2-3 times myself.

You can do that but you will be violating the EULA. The XP CD provided was for your desktop only. Installing it on any other machine, even if it is a Dell, is not allowed.

OEM Windows licenses are tied to the hardware they are sold with. and technically, MS should not activate your license either.
