Well, I just got my e1705 delivered today, and it seems my timming couldn't be worse. Is there a chance that if I call and ask Dell will give me Windows Vista?

most likely not, wouldnt hurt to try though

i'm in the same boat. i ordered on the 16th arrived 2 days before the free vista. if they dont give me the coupon, as i feel 2 weeks/2 days is so little, i'll never buy a dell again.

Dell is giving free copies of Vista?

Metamorphical Good computer user
I guess there is no harm in trying. But if you were to early on the deal, you probably miss out. Happens to the best of us though.

hehe, I ordered my laptop yesterday. I guess that means I miss out by 2 days?! I might ring Dell when I get it and see, but really Vista isn't a big deal to me.

Is this vista deal working with dell outlet also?

There's a thread on the news/reviews board that has some Dell specific info on the upgrade.

I belive much like buisnesses honering sale prices on items purchased within the return period of a product, dell should have no problem allowing you in on the free windows viesta offer since you are still within your right to compleatly return the product, and then buy it again with the free viesta offer.

Also, you knew Vista was coming out this winter.
I've asked several times on this forum about upgrade coupons for Vista. It's common that companies do stuff like that to get off the fence buyers to commit.
Computers move fast, it's not fair that you make a decision and then blame Dell for not babysitting you every step of the way.
They might offer you coupon, but they are certainly under no obligation to do so. -
Comming out this winter is different from next week. I've ended up returning it, mostly due to the mess of an instal, over 70 running proccesses at boot up! I got this thing because I didn't have time, I certianly don't have time to clean this thing up, so it's out of here. The Vista upgrade was just one more negative.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
All inspirion and xps systems come loaded with bloatware, thats just par for the course, and one of the most popular discussions on this forum, I would reccomend against installing vista on an important work related machine untill the release of the first service pack anyway, there are way too many unknowns, and there will be some fairly major growing pains. I qualify for the upgrade, and I am going to get it, but I'm not giving up xp anytime soon, I may play around with it on a seperate partition but thats ablout it, its going to be awhile, at least a couple years before there are any hardcore must have vista only application, another note, if you do run vista on a laptop, you will want to disable areo, it will make your machine run much hotter all the time, and will heavily impact battery life as the gpu will be hard at work non stop just to render the desktop, I wouldnt consider not getting vista a deal breaker, a reformat if done properly can be done in less than an hour, 2 at the most with a few hiccups, you'll probably have to do a reinstall unless you want to shell out for a high end buissness class machine, or let a kid at BB or CC or the like do it for you wich personally I'd feel safer letting a crack head give it a shot before letting them touch my equipment, but thats just my opinion, good luck

I just ordered my D820 and the Dell rep told me that with my configuration, I could only get the free Vista upgrade if I bought winXP professional. With xp home, the free Vista upgrade was not available.
However, if I went for a lower processor, not a core 2 duo 2GHz, then I could get the free vista upgrade from any win XP installation.
How weird is that? That's in Canada by the way. -

right now the deal in the US is 49 bucks to upgrade from home, s&h only for pro and media center

If you're off by a couple of days can you leave your package unopened and return it for a full refund then make a new order to get the Vista voucher?
