This isn't really a laptop issue, so I am not sure if this forum is the appropriate place. But, you all are always so helpful, I figured I'd try.

As you all may know, the xps systems come with Vista. When I got my m1330, I was disappointed hat you couldn't opt to get XP. I have heard people complaining about vista since it came out and I was weary about it.

But, no biggie. I figured that when I got it, I could just reformat and install XP. Well, when I got it, I heard people say that there are things on the xps that won't work with XP. So, I was afraid to install it. I know there is a thread on here saying that XP works fine and I was tempted to install it.

In the meantime, I have been using vista for the past few weeks and haven't noticed anything wrong with it. It works fine for me.

So, I was wondering - What are some of the things yo have experienced with Vista? Why do I always hear people giving negative feedback?

I am curious because I am still deciding what to do - keep Vista or switch to XP. Like I said, Vista has worked fine so far. But, I don't want to get down the road and find out it causes problems.

Got my Vostro in August with Vista Business - had no problems whatsoever.
    Loved XP.
    Loving Vista.

Thanks. Vista takes some getting used to. But, other than that, I haven't had a single problem. So, I was wondering why others hate it so much.

Maybe it is just because it is different from XP?!

Hmmm. Another XP vs Vista thread. Let's see ... since time is still perceived linearly, it would seem that the one we bipedal carbon-based life forms perceive as more recent would be the better choice.

Sorry...I didn't realize there were so many posts on it already :(

I was just curious since I have heard so many bad things about vista, but haven't noticed anything bad about it yet...except that it takes a little getting used to.

No worries. I was being facetious. You'll find both extremes of opinions, and those who just use the tool at hand.

Honestly i don't see why people are so scared of using vista, if you know how to install and use a computer properly. I'm sure you can handle vista if there is a problem that occurs.

There has been a great deal of FUD spread about Vista, and most of it is of no concern to the average user. General differences that everyone has to face include the slightly updated interface, increased hardware requirements, and UAC. Its important to realize that it is a new operating system, and has many features above and beyond those of XP, so try them out, instead of trying to obstinately stick to an old and outdated way of doing things.

No worries to you either...I had a feeling you were just being facetious. But, after I read your post I was looking through the threads and realized that there were a few about this. I'll have to make sure I check better next time :)

Thanks...I was wondering why people are so scared of it. Actually, I was scared of it before getting my laptop because people talked so bad about it. But, once I got my laptop and started using it, I though I must have been missing something because it works just fine for me.

Then, when I though about it, I realized that people who talked trash about vista really didn't say why. They just said they hated it. I guess...to each his or her own. But, I am liking it so far :)

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said, "...instead of trying to obstinately stick to an old and outdated way of doing things." People fear change, so even if Vista was way better, some people wouldn't accept it. So far, so good for me though.

I read a post the other day along the lines of "I spent two minutes on Vista but didn't want to spend time configuring it to my liking so installed XP". And the number of posts on other forums I frequent that say "I dont want Vista" and they haven't even tried it is untrue.

I consider myself an advanced PC user, used XP from when it came out (and intially was considered in the same breath that some peeps reserve for Vista now) and loved it. Now I've started using Vista I'm happy with it - it's caused me zero problems, feels nippy enough and I even still have UAC turned on - hasn't annoyed me enough to turn it off.

It's like with XP - the number of peeps who would run XP in classic mode to make it look like 98. What?? 98 looked rubbish. Embrace the future for feck sake.

The bottom line is Vista is designed for modern hardware and future hardware. If you have the horsepower to run it then in my experience it will cause very little problems. If you want to keep running that 10 year old software or scanner you have you may be looking for trouble.

Plus some of the blame for incompatability must got to the vendors for not being arsed to code new Vista drivers.

Well put! I think Vista is really good too. Yet, people can have their preference for whatever they like to use. The only thing is that they should not crap on another system (VISTA), just because they "think" it is too confusing, or whatever other excuses they put out there (if they put out any). Vista is good. XP is good. Now let's all be happy :D .

I use them both (XP on my inspiron, my desktop at home, and my office computer, Vista on my new xps) and I am happy with both :) I am glad that I am not the only one who hasn't noticed problems and is enjoying it.
