Hello, i have a problem on trying to instal xp windows on DELL studio 1735(on vista). When i reboot my computer, i start instaling winds from bootable dvd. It starts normaly, starting setup , copying some files, but a few steps before i should create my partitions and so on, The screen goes blue, with some text something about, try to restart computer or maby clean from virus. But nothing helps. Any ideas how can i instal XP on Vista in studio 1735?

What's the purpose of disabling it?

I'll try to explain it, but I'm not too familiar myself.

Windows XP (relatively old OS) does not have native support for AHCI (a relatively new concept for SATA operation.) XP, however, can still support AHCI but needs 3rd party drivers to allow it to work. When you install Windows XP from scratch, these 3rd party drivers are not included on the Windows XP CD you use. You can either 1. slipstream a copy of these drivers into the Windows install files and burn a new XP CD or 2. disable AHCI temporarily so you can get XP installed, then install the 3rd party drivers inside Windows, and finally re-enable it.

AHCI is supposed to give some performance boost to hard drive use but many people believe the benefits are minimal. Personally, I think it's more of a hassle than a benefit so I leave it disabled. (run it in ATA mode)

yep, you have a sata hdd and the xp disk does not contain the drivers for sata. this is probably the biggest problem when going from Vista to XP on a newer laptop-- and it gives you the BSOD every time.

try KingRators suggestion, or you can possibly put the drivers on a usb flash drive and when asked if you want to include other drivers right at the start of the install, point it to the flash drive. BUT, it seems to me that the option is to get them from a floopy, not a usb drive.....
