I'm eligible to a Vista upgrade, I purchased a m1710 in December. I tought the upgrade was free but on the site www.dellvistaupgrade.com they ask you credit card numbers, without mentionning any pricing costs.

So what kind of fees they are asking for?

The vista upgrade isn't free anywhere. The cost for the item itself is free but you still have to pay S&H. Look at it this way. You are still getting it alot cheaper than anyone else did. Mine cost $10 and I paid for it soon after getting the laptop.

BTW, is the installation can be done without installing XP/MCE first?

The Vista DVD ships with every flavor on it. Home Basic might have it's own disk however. Your product key unlocks what version is installed. Other posts in NBR have stated it is a full OS disk not just a simple upgrade. All the "upgrade" is doing is overwriting your existing OS. You can look at it as SP1 to SP2 is an upgrade.... not in the same league as going from XP/MCE to Vista. I think it will be a pretty painless install. I remember going from 98SE to ME....*shivers* Those were the dark days.
