    Can anyone shed some light on the Dell "Windows Vista Express Upgrade" program. Specifically the costs involved. Dell's website seems to indicate the the upgrade from XP pro and XP Media Center is $25 plus shipping. It indicated the upgrade from XP home is to Vista Home basic but it does not show the costs. When I go through the upgrade process online it asks for a credit card but does not state what the charges are. I'm hesitant to complete the transaction without knowing this. Does anyone know what Dell is charging for the upgrade from XP home to Vista Home Basic?

    I was wondering the same thing...
    I wasn't provided with a price and then they ask for my credit card information. It's like "ok, give me your money!!" "how much?" "ahh.. surprise!!"

    I don't like that. When I ordered my laptop, I was told it was going to be close to 50$, but then I read stories here and there and the prices are very different.

    I'm also too lazy/don't want to waste my time calling Dell to find out. I'm not going to be put on hold for that. Not worth it.

    Mine was 10.81 with tax from Pro -> Business.

    Doesn't charge you until its shipped, though.

    I thought I would post a follow up in case anyone was interested. When I received the configuration confirmation in the mail it listed the upgrade price as $45 plus S & H. When I went through the Vista upgrade process on line it confirmed the total cost with shipping as $75!! That's an upgrade from XP home to Vista home basic. I thought the upgrade was supposed to be at a nominal cost? I read that the retail price for the home basic upgrade would be about $99. Am I out of line or do I have a right to feel a bit ripped off?

    Over here in the UK, from what I gather, the follow pricing applies:

    XP Home -> Vista Home Basic = £25 + £11 p&p
    XP MCE -> Vista Home Premium = Free + £11 p&p
    XP Pro -> Vista Business = Free + £11 p&p

    Basically, the only OS that you have to pay for the upgrade to is XP Home; the others are free excluding postage.
