I've just purchased a new xps m1210 and I'm waiting for it to arrive.
Before it arrives i'm trying to prepare for any changes I might need to make on it.
I've read countless forum entries about how people have added components (extra ram, new harddrive, bluetooth modules) after they have purchased their notebooks.
Does anyone know to what extent we can tinker with the laptop before the complete care warranty becomes void?
i.e. does opening up the laptop to fix the keyboard flex void the warranty?

The keyboard is a user serviceable part, and therefore does not void the warranty. I actually called on that one to confirm and move a pinched cable myself.
As for the rest, you should be fine with RAM and HD as well as they are comonnly upgraded/replaced by users.
Bluetooth I am not 100% sure on, but I know you can order just the part and I would assume it is ok because not much is needed to get to the slot. -
It's kind of a touchy issue--things that will NOT void your warranty for sure that I know about: HD, RAM.
If you decide to do other things, it's best to just save the original components in case of service.
Technically Dell cannot refuse to honor warranty work unless they can prove the something YOU did (i.e. incorrectly installed a new CPU) caused ANOTHER component to fail (i.e. GPU).
Of course if you added a BT module (or other component) they are not required to work on it, provide support, etc.
Keyboard is user-serviceable.
