What else is running on your system? For example, I use Spy Sweeper which will occasionally block Dell Quickset at startup until I allow it again. Until I do, the volume meters are gone. Does the QuickSet icon appear in your system tray?
-
Did you install the audio drivers?
-
My guess is Quickset isn't running in the system tray or is blocked. Which is eaxtly what has already been said.
-
its definitely Quickset
-
Should I install QuickSet on my 1210? it's in my resource CD, but not checked under "my system." What does QuickSet do exactly?
-
basically it takes about 6.6M of memory and it allows certeain FN-Combo options to work, as well as providing on-screen indicators for certain functions.
If you click the system tray icon, they have consolidated several system type functions into a little context menu.
It also has a quick launch to the full QuickSet app when you double click it that allows certain other things to be done as well.
But, if you're happy without it, I suppose there is no use in installing it. For me 6.6M of memory wasn't going to make a difference and I like the visual indicators. -
Hmmm, is there a link to the full functions? Was it installed when I got my laptop, cause it crashed last night, thus the re-install...darn chkdsk re-writing all the security identifiers
-
I don't know if tghere's a link or not, but when you get your laptop back up and going, install and try it out. if you don't like it, you can always unintall it.
-
i use mcafee, would that block it? -
nothing should block the indicators. just make sure that you have Quickset installed and running. Then play around with Quickset's settings.
-
It's usually only spyware removal applications (and some antivirus apps which contain the functionality) that will actively look for any startup apps or what it thinks are changes to the startup apps and flag them. If QuickSet had a need to access the internet, then a firewall app would possibly cause an issue. QuickSet and Creative MediaSource Go had to be granted permission to launch by Spy Sweeper every time I booted up until I disabled the startup shield scan. For a surefire test, you could temporarily disable your mcafee then reboot and see what happens. Or uninstall and reinstall QuickSet to see if it was just a bad install or driver problem.
