anyone know how i can activate the tone controls under "volume control" "advanced"?

They are shown (bass, treble) but locked and inactive.

Im wondering if my subwoofer is even recognized.

Also, i have the soundblaster option from Dell. I did a reformat and havent installed it back on. Is it worth it? What difference will i notice with that software installed?

    thanks

This is enabled only if your sound card has this feature.Get Winamp with the
Jammix Enhancer plug-in and you can these controls with software. You're soundbaster may activate this feature.
Subwolfer should work fine anyway.Check with volume control.
