I recently received my Inspirion 1420..,

I noticed after doing installs that the Media and Volume buttons would do weird things. pressing woud sometimes change the volume, but also one button had the equivalent of F11.

Another would put the computer to sleep.

    basically, they wwouldnt work.

I went back to facory defaults, and same issue. I tries booting with no startup items and SAME issue.

I am beginning to think this has to be hardware related somehow, as the remote DOES raise volume and mute properly.

Has ANYONE else had this.. where the buttons do strange things? Nothing seems "stuck".

If anyone has any ideas how to fix.. if there could be some software thing, please let me know... If not, this goes back after a 6 week wait

Sometimes it starts poutting random numbers in the search oir any open window when pressing these buttons....

    Thanks

    Mike

Since nobody answered I guess I am th eonly one with this weird issue which must be hardware related....

It acts like a software or conflict problem, but since it even has issues with these buttons using the Media Manager thing which doesnt even boot into Vista

Call Dell and ask/complain about. See what they tell/offer you.

What media program are you using? I have heard of media button problems with mediamonkey and winamp.

Oh no.. this was worse than that.. I actually made Dell take the machine back and I reodrdeed it.. Since there was such a delay and the prices changed, I am now getting the glossy screen which wasnt originally available, and Lojack all for 400 dollars LESS....

As for the buttons, it isnt defining them.. it was some more serious problem.. I would press volume and the Quickset would shoew and adjust the volume and also close a window.. Each button was just doing weird tings.. I thought maybe they were jammed but I tried to pry them and still same results.... Not built very welll.

Now I have to wait until September to ge tmy laptop.. I originally ofrdered end of May!!
