Hi all - thanks for a very informative board.

I reinstalled XP Pro on my new E1505 recently and everything is running great, save one curious thing: I no longer get a visual volume level indicator when I adjust the volume (using the front buttons, for example). Not a huge problem, but an inconvenience.

I've got the SoundBlaster Advanced Audio card, and I've updated the Sigmatel drivers - and the sound is working fine, otherwise.

Anyone run into this before? I've tried poking around every Preferences section I can find, to no avail.

    Thanks for any help!

btw - I've had the E1505 for about a month now, and no complaints. Great machine.

If you reinstall, I think the front buttons stop working.

You need to install the Dell QuickSet utility to get this feature back. It also controls most of the Function Hotkeys.

    Ah.... Thanks everyone!

btw- the front buttons do work (i.e. they adjust volume, pause/start play etc.), I just don't get any visual indication of such.

    Thanks again!

Where do you find the Quickset installation file? I have looked everywhere! I really want the volume indicator, as it is sort of annoying if the volume is muted and you hit the buttons to change the level, you can't see what is going on, so you have to go to the Volume system tray icon to check it out...

haha a small gripe, but still, I want the Quickset!
