    they have some cheapass memory in that thing 4 gigs for $500? compared to the $1000 for the inspron.

    If they had a 1701 version with an AMD proc, I'd get one. I like the dual hard drives in it. Nice.

    Wow, the Vostro (mainly a "business" laptop) has the damn remote in it for a $60 upgrade. Strange.

    Exactly about the RAM...it's ridiculous. You can get 4gbs of RAM for like $200 extra or something like that with the Vostro and with the Inspiron, an extra $850. There is absolutely no way that could reflect anything close to their cost.

    I could buy 4gbs of notebook RAM for $250 and I don't get bulk discounts like Dell does.

    yeah, but aside from playing DVD's nicely, remotes are helpful for running powerpoint presentations.

    Hmm... the Vostro 1400 is also listed with DDR2... makes me wonder if the 1420 will really come with DDR3 like they've listed on their page under Tech Specs
